Five senior IAS officers working in the central government have been sent to Uttar Pradesh which is facing shortage of senior bureaucrats.

The move comes following a request to the Centre by the state government seeking services of some senior officers of UP cadre.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved repatriation of five bureaucrats including senior IAS officer Alok Kumar, at present Joint Secretary in Textiles Ministry, to their cadre state of Uttar Pradesh, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.

Besides him, Sanjay R Bhoosreddy, Prashant Trivedi and Shashi Prakash Goyal (all from 1989 batch) have also been repatriated to UP, it said.

Bhoosreddy is at present Chief Vigilance Officer in MMTC Ltd. Trivedi and Goyal are working as Joint Secretaries in Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Ministry of Human Resource Development, respectively.

Anurag Srivastava, a 1992-batch IAS officer, has also been sent to Uttar Pradesh. He will be relieved by the end of June, 2017 after the International Yoga Day event, it said.

June 21 has been declared as International Yoga Day.

Srivastava is Joint Secretary in AYUSH ministry.

These senior officers are likely to get important posts in the state, a senior DoPT official said.

The ACC has also waived extended cooling off period -- a period of relaxation need to be served by an officer going back to his or her cadre state before completion of central deputation tenure -- of these bureaucrats.

Another IAS officer Avanish Kumar Awasthi has already been sent back to Uttar Pradesh last month by the Centre.

There is a shortage of over 100 IAS officers in state.

As per latest data of DoPT, there are 515 IAS officers in position against the total authorised strength of 621.
