West Bengal IT minister Bratya Basu today accused the Centre of "unanimously" taking decisions regarding the education policy of the country, saying it should consult state governments before formulating the policy and other educational schemes.

"The Centre is announcing various schemes regarding the education system. They are announcing various schemes for the education policy, but are not releasing funds for implementing these schemes, rather they have slashed funds. They are unanimously taking decisions about these schemes," Basu told a programme here.

Basu cited several policies where the Centre has either stopped funds or have slashed it by 50-60 per cent.

The Centre, he said, should sit and discuss with the state government before formulating an education policy.

"The Centre should sit with the state governments and discuss with them before formulating an education policy. The Centre cannot take decision unanimously. In a federal structure the Centre can't take decisions on their own. Rather they should discuss and decide," Basu said.
