The Centre should set up more IITs and such technical institutes in the country to allow maximum number of students gain quality education, SRM University Founder and Chancellor, T R Paari Vendhar said.

The faculty in government institutions are without doubt more educated and skilled. But the spirit for hard work and goal orientation is absent there. This is the reason for rise in demand for universities and institutes of higher education in private sector, Vendhar told reporters here yesterday.

The Chancellor, appealing to the central government to open more Indian Institutes of Technology, said that these technical institutes would certainly enable maximum number of students gain quality education.

He, however, also expressed concerns over the dearth in qualified faculty and facilities at the IITs.

Praising the coaching centres of Kota, Paari said the city has now emerged as an ideal coaching platform for medical and engineering entrance examinations.

On the occasion, it was declared that five students from the economically disadvantaged families of Rajasthan would be provided free education in SRM University, Chennai.
