Centre to decide on raising EPF pension amount

The Centre will soon take a decision over the proposal to increase Employees Provident Fund (EPF) pension amount to Rs 1,000, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment K Suresh said today.

"Discussions are going on regarding the proposal to increase EPF pension to Rs 1,000. I hope very soon this will be approved by the Union Cabinet," Suresh told reporters.

The proposal of trade unions for raising the ceiling of EPF from existing Rs 6,500 to Rs 15,000 was also being considered though no decision has been taken by the government so far, he said.

The minister was in the city to discuss and review status of labour welfare schemes and other works with senior officers.
 

He said that a 300-bed super speciality ESI hospital in Jaipur, being constructed with a cost of Rs 178 crore, is scheduled to be completed by August this year whereas the ESI medical college and a 500-bed hospital attached to it in Alwar district would be completed by December next year.

"Alwar's medical college, being set up with estimated cost of Rs 640 crore, will have the standard of AIIMS.

"Our 15 medical colleges are being constructed across the country and we plan to inaugurate 3-4 colleges this year," he said.

The minister also informed that ESI corporation will have its own building in Jaipur by the end of May this year.

Besides, eight districts in the state, which in present are not being covered under ESI will also be covered in the coming days.
