The Centre will work on a plan to encourage more research work in the field of agriculture, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said.

Addressing a gathering of farmers and scholars last evening here at the Directorate of Rice Research (DRR), located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, he said that the matter will be discussed with the concerned ministry soon.

The Minister of State for Labour (Independent charge) was the chief guest at the Farmers' Day event organised at the DRR.

Appreciating the role of the DRR, he said that the institute is the pride of the newly formed Telangana state.

As rice is an important food in the country, institutes like DRR have to produce more varieties of seeds that can be beneficial for the farmers and the people, he said. He also asked the scientists to visit any village at least once a week.

"The Saansad Grameen Yojana will be successful if the scientists visit villages more," he added.

The Union government will make all out efforts to provide 24-hours quality power supply, said the minister.
