In a move aimed at triggering competition among states, the Centre is set to come out with a mechanism under which they will be ranked in terms of ease of doing business under the 'Make in India' initiative, a government official said today.

"Our major initiative is ranking of states. We would like all states to compete among themselves and (see) which will be the best investment friendly, (having) eco system for industries...We should come out with ranking of states where states are ranked in terms of ease of doing business," DIPP Joint Secretary Ravneet Kaur said here today at a workshop on 'Make In India' initiative.

"We have sent the questionnaire to all the states and the states are giving their responses. After that we will double check their responses. We will crosscheck by our consultants whether their notifications are ready," she further said.

The ranking of states is expected to be out by August end, she added.

Talking about ambitious 'Make in India' initiative, she said the country would like to see itself as global manufacturing hub of the world.

Among other initiatives under Make in India, she said any query put by an entrepreneur would be responded within 72 hours on the portal of 'Make in India'.

She said the department had already received 12,000 queries with 2 lakh visitors and 4.56 lakh followers on twitter account.

Among major decisions, the government had already liberalized FDI in several sectors, the official said.

"Now, there is 100 per cent FDI in railways, construction, medical devices, telecom, single brand retail, 49 per cent in insurance and pension funds, 49 per cent in defence sector," she said.

"We are the most open economy in the world today," Kaur said.

She informed that equity inflow in the country had gone up by 47.95 per cent during the last 8-10 months.

Kaur said a conference on 'Start Up India' will be held in August whereby efforts will be made to tap venture capitalists and angle investors to help young entrepreneurs for setting up their projects.
