Press Trust of India Madurai
: MDMK leader Vaiko today charged the Centre with doing injustice to Tamil Nadu by trying to rush through with the hydrocarbon project and sought to know why it should sacrifice for the benefit of other states.

"The central government is doing injustice to Tamil Nadu by hurrying to implement the Hydrocarbon project. Why should Tamil Nadu sacrifice for the benefit of other states?," he asked.

Describing the hydrocarbon project as a 'destructive' one, he said he was happy to note that students and youth are opposed to it

Claiming that he has for long been fighting for the livelihood and rights of Tamils, Vaiko recalled the outcome of a petition he had filed in High Court against harmful 'karuvelam' trees.

The court had directed the Tamil Nadu government to allocate funds to remove the trees and the judge had complimented him for doing good work for society and the state by filing the PIL, Vaiko said.
