Centre,UP to respond on plea against Dadri wetland destruction

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) today sought responses of the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government on a plea alleging that Dadri wetlands in Greater Noida is being allegedly destroyed by a upcoming township and university.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar also issued a notice to the UP Environment Directorate, UP State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Greater Noida Authority, Uttam Steels and Associates and the Shiv Nadar University and sought their responses by next date of hearing on July 10.

The Tribunal's order came on the plea of two UP-based environmentalists Akash Vashishtha and Vikrant Tongad who have alleged the Dadri wetlands, also called as Bil Akbarpur wildlife habitat and home to the protected blackbuck species, Nilgai as well as over 200 migratory and resident birds, is being destroyed due to activity of builders and others.
