Centre urges Telangana to complete enumeration of crop losses

Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya today asked the Telangana government to complete the enumeration of crop losses at the earliest and send a report to the Centre.

Speaking to reporters after a review meeting with revenue and agricultural department officials here to discuss crop loss due to untimely rains in Telangana, he said, "The enumeration process has to be speeded up and a memorandum should be sent to the Centre by Telangana government, so that a Central team can visit affected areas to ensure that farmers get more relief".

"Unseasonal rains in ten districts of Telangana has damaged paddy, maize and turmeric crops. We have advised the Telangana government to utilise the Rs 265 crore from State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for farmers who are affected due to unseasonal rains," the Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment said.
 

Since formation of Telangana state in June 2014, as many as 91 farmers committed suicide, he said, quoting government reports.

Today's review meeting also focussed on collecting information from drought affected areas of the state, the minister said.
