Congress leader Manish Tewari today accused the Narendra Modi government of watching the interests of a few corporate houses, saying it was a government "of the corporates, by the corporates and for the corporates" only.

"The BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is of the corporates, by the corporates and for the corporates only. This government is watching the interests of a few big corporates only," the former Union minister said here on the sidelines of a function organised to mark Kabir Jayanti.

The BJP government had been "sold out" to the corporates and they were "dictating" terms to it, Tewari said, alleging that this government had nothing to offer to common man.

Launching an attack at the Centre, the Congress leader said, farmers' plight in the country was going from bad to worse and this government was "hell bent" on "robbing them" of their precious land.

"Otherwise what is the point of repeatedly promulgating and re-promulgating the land ordinance," he asked, adding this government has no confidence in itself to get it passed in both the Houses of the Parliament.

Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's accusation that Congress WAs following "suitcase" culture, Tewari said it was the NDA government which in 1999 allegedly took several suitcases loaded with money and handed these to the Taliban terrorists in Kandhar in Afghanistan.

"And height of all this was that the then External Affairs Minister was made to hand over it to the terrorists", he said.
