Speaking at a farmers meeting at Charra village, about 5 km from here, Mishra said the chit funds were collecting money from the poor people for starting newspapers and news channels.
"These chit funds are not returning the money collected from the people... They must be stopped immediately," the CPI-M leader said.
Mishra lambasted Chief Minister for assuring the people of providing jobs. "Where are the jobs?... Her assurances can never be carried out."
Banerjee ostensibly visited states for official work but does work for her party Trinamool Congress, he said.
Left parties had last week asked the Centre to take prompt action against the mushrooming chit fund companies in West Bengal and charged the Mamata Banerjee government with "aiding and abetting" these firms which were "looting" the poor in the state.
A delegation of leaders of CPI(M), CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc also met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

Commenting upon the issue of FDI in multi-brand retail, CPI-M MP Basudeb Acharya said FDI would harm the farmers and the common people of the country.
"Small shops will go out of business and unemployment will increase. If FDI is allowed in West Bengal, CPI-M will resist it," he said.
