The Centre had deputed a six-member team of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi led by Dr Nirmal Joe to visit the affected areas and it would submit a report on the situation, he told reporters here last night.

He said over 700 people were admitted in hospitals for dengue fever in Tirunelveli district, the worst hit, while 13 had succumbed to it.

Gandhiselvan said he had briefed Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad and the Centre would help the state.

The central team of doctors arrived in Tirunelvei yesterday as the state government intensified measures to control spread of dengue fever in the district.
