'Centre will provide all possible assistance to AP farmers'

Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today assured that the Centre will provide all assistance to cyclone-affected Andhra Pradesh farmers for damage to their crops.

Singh gave this assurance to the Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who met him here today to apprise of the damage of crops and other agriculture activities in the state.

"Radha Mohan Singh also spoke to Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Chandra Babu Naidu over phone and said that his ministry is awaiting formal assessment of damage of crops by the state Government and the request to see the areas where the immediate assistance is required," an offcial statement said today.
 

Agriculture Minister assured that his Ministry would provide all possible support to rehabilitate farming activities, including fishing, animal husbandry and plantation of various crops.

He asserted that Union Agriculture Ministry would take up the work on priority basis.

On October 12, cyclone Hudhud has hit the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha with heavy rain and winds of about 170 kmph, leaving a trail of destruction in Vishakapatnam.
