The CPI here has charged the BJP-led government at the Centre with seeking to divest the constitutionally formed Puducherry government of its rights and privileges.

"The NDA government had been turning a deaf ear to several welfare schemes evolved by the Puducherry administration," a resolution adopted by the party at its state executive meeting yesterday, said.

"The rights and privileges available to the elected government under the Constitution are being crushed by the NDA government and this is a clear proof of how it is disposed towards a state ruled by a party opposed to the BJP," another resolution said.

The resolutions also expressed concern over the current "war of words between the Ministry and the Lt Governor appointed by the Centre" for nearly a year dislocating developmental activities of Puducherry.
