Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) is consulting banks to arrange for mobile-banking facility in remote carpet-weaving belts to ensure that daily activities of artisans are not hampered by the scrapping of old Rs 500/1000 currency notes.

The carpet exporters' body has also asked its members to assist weavers-artisans with documentation process, cash availability and long term repayment loans.

Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani said she was "grateful to CEPC for undertaking initiatives to ease impact of 're-monetisation' on weavers of carpet industry".

Irani also chaired a meeting of field officers in-charge of regional centres and handicrafts marketing centres here.

She stressed on enhancing participation of artisans in marketing events and MUDRA Yojana and sought inputs from officers in-charge for the same.

The minister also reviewed on-ground progress of programmes including Pehchan and Guru Shishya Parampara.
