To promote ease of doing business, the Indian Patent Office has introduced automatic issuance of electronically generated patent certificate once it is approved.

Patent certificates will now be generated through an automated system after the patent is granted by the Controller General of Patents, Design and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) and will be made available to the applicants concerned or their authorised patent agents on record.

The move assumes significance as the government is taking steps to facilitate patent filing and reduce pendency of applications.

The office of the CGPDTM in a public notice has said: "the process relating to generation and issuance of patent certificates for applications made for grant of patent has now fully automated".

It said after the generation of patent certificates, it will be transmitted to the applicant concerned or his authorised patent agent on record, on his/her email address.

The certificate shall also be made available on the official website along with status of the application concerned.

The patent certificate made available on the website can be downloaded and printed by the applicant.

It asked the applicants to update their valid email-id to the office of the CGPDTM so as to facilitate quick transmission of patent certificates to them.

The Indian Patent Office or CGPDTM comes under the commerce and industry ministry.
