In a letter addressed to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and submitted to cabinet minister Shivpal Singh Yadav last evening, he claimed that he was quitting to save the image of the party.

He had taken the decision to allot graves free of cost in graveyards after which "mafia ganged up against me and misled the Shia community and there was mutual tension from the last one month," Rizvi alleged.

He alleged that while he was fighting against corruption, it seemed that the corrupt were so strong that the malaise could not be rooted out from the country.
