The driver of a car which ploughed into a police van on the Champs-Elysees avenue in Paris today is "very likely dead", an interior ministry spokesman said.
"A bomb disposal operation is under way to ensure the vehicle poses no further danger," spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said at the scene.
