Chana prices rose 0.78 per cent to Rs 5,264 per quintal in futures trade today as traders created more positions, driven by strong demand in the spot market amid restricted supplies.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in September advanced Rs 41, or 0.78 per cent, to Rs 5,264 per quintal with an open interest of 11,080 lots.

Similarly, the commodity for delivery in October edged higher by Rs 31, or 0.59 per cent, to Rs 5,258 per quintal in 4,990 lots.

Analysts attributed the persistent rise in chana prices in futures trade to widening of positions by speculators, tracking a firm trend at the domestic spot market on strong demand.
