Chana prices surged by 1.91 per cent to Rs 3,942 per quintal in futures trade today on reports of lower output hopes amid pick up in demand from mills.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in April month shot up by Rs 74, or 1.91 per cent to Rs 3,942 per quintal with an open interest of 64,310 lots.

Similarly, the commodity for delivery in May traded higher by Rs 51, or 1.32 per cent to Rs 3,918 per quintal in 1,02,960 lots.

Analysts attributed the sharp rise in chana futures to reports of lower output this year amidst rising demand in the spot market.
