Extending yesterday's gain, chana prices were higher by 0.22 per cent to Rs 4,082 per quintal in futures trade today as participants engaged in building up their positions, driven by rising demand in the spot market.

However, expectations of higher supplies from new season crop and favorable climate across chana growing states - Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, capped the rise.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in April rose by Rs 9, or 0.22 per cent, to Rs 4,082 per quintal, with an open interest of 29,220 lots.

Likewise, the commodity for delivery in May edged up by Rs 6, or 0.15 per cent, to Rs 4,129 per quintal in 6,750 lots.

Analysts said widening of position by traders on the back of rising demand in the spot market mainly kept chana prices higher at futures trade.
