Chana prices rose by 0.42 per cent to Rs 4,518 per quintal in futures trade Friday as participants expanded positions, driven by rising demand at the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in January was trading higher by Rs 19, or 0.42 per cent, to Rs 4,518 per quintal with an open interest of 38,290 lots.

On similar lines, the commodity for delivery in far-month March was up by Rs 26, or 0.56 per cent, to Rs 4,640 per quintal in 13,620 lots.

Analysts said widening of positions by traders following rising demand in the spot market against restricted supplies mainly led to the rise in prices.
