Rising for the second straight day, chana prices moved up further by 0.35 per cent to Rs 4,610 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators widened positions, tracking a firm trend at the spot market on demand pick-up.

Besides, reports of lower output from key producing areas supported the upside.

At National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in June gained Rs 16, or 0.35 per cent, to Rs 4,610 per quintal with an open interest of 1,14,540 lots.

Similarly, the commodity for delivery in May contracts edged up Rs 5, or 0.11 per cent, to Rs 4,535 per quintal in 7,980 lots.

Analysts said that besides lower output estimates following unseasonal rains in key producing areas, pick-up in demand in the spot market mainly kept chana prices higher in futures trade.
