Government Model High School, Chandigarh and Bangladesh Kidha Siksha Pratisthan (BKSP) entered the Under-14 semifinals of the 55th Subroto Cup football tournament after posting contrasting victories at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium here today.

In the two quarterfinal matches today, Chandigarh eked out a narrow 1-0 win over Nilmani English School (Manipur), while Bangladesh Kidha Siksha Pratisthan (BKSP) defeated Khrumdiengei Secondary School from Meghalaya 5-4 via penalty shootout.

Chandigarh's S Sanjeev scored the lone goal of the match just six minutes from closing time to steer his team into the last four stage of the tournament. He headed in a measured cross from midfielder Amarjit.

The Bangladeshi outfit were certainly the superior side today, even as Meghalaya boys kept them at bay.

With the regulation time and extra time not yielding any result, the match had to decided with the help of penalty shootout.

Both team missed their respective first strike and eventually finished at tied 3-3 at the end of the penalty shootout.

With sudden death in operation, Bangladesh missed their sixth attempt, giving Meghalaya a golden opportunity. But Nongrang's hit went sky high.

Both the teams then converted their seventh attempt before Bangladesh capitalised on their eighth attempt as well.

With Meghalaya under tremendous pressure, BKSP goalkeeper Rajib saved the effort of Batskhemlang to deny the north-eastern side a semifinal berth.

For BKSP Tamjim Islam, Mohammad, Jewel, Borhanuddin, Raja Sheikh and Rashadul Islam scored the goals, while Bankitbok, Banteiland, Modestarson and Donbokland found the target for Meghalaya.
