The CBI has arrested Birendra Choudhary, member secretary of the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to let go a person accused of violating environmental laws.
Choudhary was arrested yesterday, officials said.
The CBI registered a case after the complainant alleged that he had received a show cause notice from Choudhary regarding revocation of consent issued to him earlier to undertake some work, agency spokesperson R K Gaur said here today.
He said searches were conducted at the premises of Choudhary, who will be produced before a court in Chandigarh today.
