Ajit Chandila's family today denied the spot-fixing charges on the 29-year-old cricketer, saying he is innocent and a victim of conspiracy.

"He (Ajit) has nothing to do with spot-fixing. He is innocent. He has been framed due to politics," wife of Ajit Chandila, Sarita said.

"I spoke to him last night. He has been performing well this season, which has made people jealous," she added.

Chandila's mother too remained in denial about her son's involvement in the fiasco.

"This is politics. My son can't do this. I have given him birth. I know him very well. The truth will soon come out," said the cricketer's mother.

Chandila belongs to Tigaon village here. His brother Veerpal Gujjar is a local office-bearer of the INLD (Indian National Lok Dal) party.

In a sensational development this morning, Chandila along with his two Rajasthan Royals teammates, S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan, was arrested by the Delhi Police on charges of spot-fixing in Indian Premier League matches.

Three players charged with spot-fixing in the IPL were suspended by the BCCI pending inquiry.
