Chandrababu sets the ball rolling on waiver of crop loans

Keeping his election promises, first Chief Minister of new Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu tonight signed a file related to waiver of crop loans and loans to women self-help groups and weavers.

Immediately after he was sworn in as chief minister at a grand function here tonight, Chandrababu signed the first file and announced a committee was being constituted to frame guidelines for the loan waiver.

"The committee will submit its report in 45 days based on which the loan waiver will be fully implemented," Chandrababu announced amidst a thunderous applause from the lakhs of people assembled for the event.
 

The Chief Minister also signed files related to closure of belt shops (illegal liquor vends in villages), enhancement of pension to Rs 1,000 a month to old people and widows and up to Rs 1,500 in two slabs for physically-challenged and implementation of NTR Sujala, a scheme for supply of clean drinking water to villages.

"We will supply mineral water to needy villages at Rs 2 per 20 litres," Chandrababu said.

He also signed another file enhancing the retirement age for state government employees from 58 to 60 years.

"Other demands of the employees will also be addressed," he assured.
