"The recent controversy on this is baseless and unfortunate. They have nothing to do with facts," Chandy told reporters.

The government had always been firm in its commitment to help the people suffering from the spraying of endosulfan in a state-owned plantation in Kasargod district, he said.

Referring to the allegation, he said it was the Community Medicine Department of Kozhikode Medical College which drew up a report on epidemiological issues relating to endosulfan.

One S Ganesan contested the findings of the study and wanted the government to convene a meet and review the report and threatened to move the court if the request was not complied with.

Following this, the Health Department consulted the law department which advised it to seek the opinion of the Head of Community Medicine of the Medical College. The opinion given by the Community Medicine Department head was that there was no need to comply with the request to reconsider the report.

The government stand was that there was no need to review the report since the studies on endosulfan issue had already been reviewed by scientific bodies like the Indian Council of Medical Research, National Institute of Medical Statistics and the Supreme Court Joint Expert Committee on Endosulfan, Chandy said.
