Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said he stood by his statement that the state high court's criticism of the functioning of Advocate General's office was not correct, but made it clear that the government was not against the judiciary.
Replying to a point of order raised by CPI-M Deputy Leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan in the state assembly, Chandy said he cannot remain silent when the high court judge makes observations "asking the AG's office to be shut down".
"I am not a person who will remain quite when high court judge asks for shutting down the AG's office. The AG's office functions for government pleaders and it is my responsibility to protect government pleaders," Chandy added.
Chandy also clarified that he did not say that Judge should not forget the path he came up while replying to a notice for an adjournment motion moved by LDF opposition in the House on Friday last.
'I only said that one should not forget the dignity of the post one holds', Chandy said and questioned the Judge's observation that AG's office should be shut down.
Balakrishnan condemned the Chief Minister's remark against high court Judge.
Justice Alexander Thomas had last week criticised the functioning of the AG's office during the hearing of cases related to police.
