Chaos and confusion today reigned in petrol, diesel and CNG stations across the city after government's announcement to demonitise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, as customers made a beeline seeking to pocket smaller currencies.
Many stations put up temporary closure boards, citing "technical issues".
"What I experienced are long queues across fuel pumps and their stubborn refusal to give change back. They flatly deny and ask you to buy fuel for Rs 1000 if you are carrying that amount. You can't buy for Rs 800 even if you want," said Tanyaa Sharma, awaiting refill outside a gas station in Saket.
Many people, who actually lined up for fuel and not for short change, grumbled for having to return without managing to get their vehicles' tanks filled.
"It was a harrowing experience waiting in line for petrol. Especially when I did not even have to change my Rs 500. I had Rs 100 notes yet I could not get petrol because it seemed entire Mayur Vihar thronged the pump," Manish Sain, a media professional, said.
Meanwhile, many dealers took to Twitter to put across their defence to Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
"Dear @dpradhanbjp respond hw v get 100s? esteemed customers bringing 500s & 1000s filling below 300! @radhika_miglani @empoweringdlrs (sic)," Prakash MD, an HPCL dealer, tweeted.
