Charan Singh remembered

The ruling Samajwadi Party celebrated the day as Kisan Diwas with party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav describing Charan Singh as an undisputed leader of the backwards, farmers and dalits.

Yadav unveiled a lifesize statue of the former PM at his native Sefai village in Etawah district.

Charan Singh wanted probity in public life and had his own economic ideology, he said.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav garlanded Charan Singh's portrait and said the late leader was a symbol of honesty, simplicity and discipline.

Office-bearers and workers of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, led by their president Munna Singh Chauhan, garlanded the statue of Charan Singh at the party office.

 

The Janata Dal (United) also celebrated Charan Singh's birthday as Kisan Diwas.
