A charity in memory of an Indian- origin hotelier, who was murdered during a visit to India earlier this year, will be launched by his family in the UK to support vulnerable children and elderly people across the world.

The Ranjit Singh Power Foundation Trust will be launched tomorrow on what would have been Power's 55th birthday.

It will kick-start with a 25,000-pound donation from Power's partner Angela Bir, who said the trust would help her fulfil both their dreams, the Birmingham Mail reported.

She said Power, who was found dead in Anandpur Sahib forest area in Punjab in May, 10 days after he disappeared during a business trip, had already supported various causes including Young Carers and had always hoped to do more.

"Power and I always felt we should be supporting our local community. We have been very privileged and lucky in our business lives and had a commitment to donating a proportion of our profits to charity," Bir said.

Organisations that support children with cancer and young carers in the UK, as well as orphanages and poor families in India will benefit from Trust funds, Bir said.

"Now that Ranj is no longer here, I want to continue his dream and do as much as I can in his name, not just with our community in our city but also in India where we have roots and poverty blights lives," Bir said.

Power, 54, was in north India on a business trip when he disappeared. His family feared he had been kidnapped and murdered and offered 25,000 pounds for information leading to his whereabouts.

His body was found 10 days after his disappearance.
