A Shanghai-bound chartered plane with two passengers on board, made an emergency landing at the Raja Bhoj airport in the city this evening following a technical snag in the aircraft's engine, an official said.

"The plane, with two passengers and a pilot on board, made an emergency landing following a technical glitch in the engine of the aircraft," Director of Raja Bhoj Airport K Gunasekaran said.

The flight landed after obtaining permission from the Airports Authority of India, Bhopal (North) Superintendent of Police Arvind Saxena told PTI.

He said it was heading to China from Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).

The passengers and the pilot, who are foreign nationals (two British and one Dutch citizen), were put up in a VIP lounge at the airport, Saxena said adding, "They won't be allowed to move out of the airport area as they do not have permission."

According to Gunasekaran, the aircraft was manufactured in the UK and the manufacturer was being contacted to fix the engine trouble.
