Hundreds of students of various colleges affiliated to Chaudhary Charan Singh University today protested in the city against the university leadership for charging examination fees from them.

The students held the protest at GT Road and burnt an effigy of the university's vice chancellor, student leader and executive member of ABVP's state committee, Kuldeep Nagar said.

The students, belonging to reserved category and admitted in colleges on "zero fees quota", were protesting against their respective college managements for charging examination fees from them, Nagar said.

The orders for charging the fees were given by the vice chancellor, he said.

The protesters included students from Shambhu Dayal college, MMH college, VML girls college, Kanshi Ram Degree college, and LR college.

They raised slogans against the "draconian order" of the vice chancellor, the student leader said.

The traffic on GT road and other arterial roads was obstructed due to the protest, following which police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
