Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today asked his well wishers not to put up billboards, banners on his birthday on March 17 in view of the severe drought situation in the state.

In a statement, Chavan said he will not be celebrating his birthday and will not be available in Mumbai.

He asked people to donate money which would have been used for garlands, posters and banners, to the Chief Minister's relief fund.

The chief minister said the state is reeling under drought for the second time in a row. Water scarcity is grim in 16 districts.

Even though the government is working towards providing relief to all the people, there are limitations. He has also asked his well wishers not to organise programmes on his birthday and instead ensure that water supply and cattle fodder reach the needy.
