Chavan had a 40-minute meeting with Ban at Sahyadri Guest House here.

Talking to reporters later, Chief Minister said that terror attacks came up in the discussion. "I stressed the need for the UN to deliberate on and adopt India's proposal of international convention on terrorism," he said.

Besides, Chavan said, they talked about implementation of United Nation's Millenium Development Goals. Ban expressed satisfaction about the implementation of the health schemes in the state, such as free services to pregnant mothers and sick new born babies and Jeevandayi Yojana for the poor.

"Maharashtra has achieved the target of reducing child mortality rate and maternal mortality rate. However, we are worried about the child sex ratio and will take steps to improve it by adopting best practices from other countries," Chavan said.

The Millenium Development Goals include eradication of poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality and empowering women, among others. PTI MR KRK
