: A group of investors reportedly cheated of Rs one crore by a family run chit fund here, today approached the city police commissioner, seeking steps to get back their deposits.

In a petition to the Commissioner, A K Vishwanathan, the investors said that a couple, along with their son, were running a chit fund in Gandhipuram with a branch in Selvapuram in the city.

Promising higher interest, they had collected money from a large number of people, ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs three lakh, they said.

The couple had displayed a board in front of the office claiming that they would be going on a one week holiday from July four.

They had promised some investors their money would be returned within a month and expressed their inability to refund the money to others, the complainants said.
