Chemical godown gutted in blaze; none hurt

A chemical godown located on the outskirts of Purna village in the district was gutted in a major fire today.

However, nobody was injured in the incident.

The fire broke out at around 10 am in Raunak Warehouse where some chemicals were stored under the limits of the Narpoli Police Station, a District Disaster Cell official said.

At least half a dozen fire tenders from Ambernath, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane and surrounding municipal corporations were rushed to the spot.

The official said the fire was still raging as the personnel are taking utmost care to check its spread to hazardous chemicals.
 

Chemical experts were also rushed to the spot to assist the fire personnel.

The plumes have enveloped the industrial area and workers in the nearby units were asked to take precaution.

A Fire official said the cause of the blaze is being investigated.
