The Chennai Angels, an angel investor, has made an investment of USD 2,50,000 (about Rs 1.65 crore) in Hyderabad-based startup Octathorpe Web-Consultants, the promoter of cricket management game Hitwicket.

The online game is already generating funds through app purchases.

"Hitwicket has done a unique job of coupling it with the management. It's only a matter of time before gaming companies become mainstream like in western countries," Chennai Angels' R Narayanan who led the investment said in a statement.

"The possibility to use the game of cricket with business and entrepreneurial skills makes this a worthy tool that enables players to showcase their managerial skills."

Octathorpe Web-Consultants started off as a Web services company and later forayed into the cricket management game.

"We designed the Hitwicket gameplay as an amalgamation of Poker, Monopoly and Chess, games whose appeal spans generations. Hitwicket has plenty of avenues for learning for its users too," Octathorpe Web-Consultants CEO Kashyap Reddy said.

Hitwicket currently has users in New Delhi, Lahore, Dhaka, Bengaluru and Mumbai, it said.
