Chennai-based start-up victorious at eBay contest

A solution developed by city-based start-up to improve the educational system has led the company to emerge victorious at the recently held contest conducted by eBay and PayPal.

Chennai Data Portal, a non-profit organisation based in Chennai, won the 36-hour hackathon for developing the solution to improve the educational system, a company statement said.

The team developed a tool enabling the Corporation of Chennai to manage schools and improve the quality of education by constantly monitoring the quality of infrastructure, staffing, and performance management, it said.

KSIDC's business incubator opened

* The 5,000 sq ft business incubator set up by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation at KINFRA park at nearby Kakkanad, was inaugurated here today by State Industries and IT minister P K Kunhalikutty.
 

Speaking at the function, the minister said that the incubation centre would be an encouragement for the young, bright entrepreneurs with innovative ideas, in the state.

In his address, Satyajeet Rajan, Principal Secretary (Industries) & KSIDC Managing Director, said that the centre was set up to fulfil the request made by young entrepreneurs at the YES (Young Entrepreneurs summit) summit held here recently.

New Sinter Plant and Top Gas Recovery Turbine opened at RSP * A new Sinter Plant-3 and Top Gas Recovery Turbine (TRT) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have been opened, thereby making operational all facilities in blast furnace-5.

The new Sinter Plant-3 supplies sinter to the new 4,060 m3 Blast Furnace-5. The single strand Sinter Unit has an effective suction area of 360 cubic metres and an annual production capacity of 3.70 MT of gross sinter, RSP said in a release today.

The Top Gas Recovery Turbine would generate about 14 MW of power from the Blast Furnace Gas. With the inauguration of the TRT, all facilities in Blast Furnace-5 of RSP, a unit of SAIL, have become fully operational, it said.

Tara Jewels Q2 net decreased by 4pc to Rs 10.57cr * Tara Jewels today reported 4.17 per cent decline in its net profit at Rs 10.57 crore for the second quarter ended on September 30 .

The company had clocked a net profit of Rs 11.03 crore in the year-ago period.

Total income from operations during July-September quarter rose to Rs 385.05 crore from Rs 358.39 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in a BSE filing.
