City-based Brain Power Academy today said a chess tournament for the unrated or below 2000 rated players would begin here from May 15.
"We are expecting over 500 participants at the event from across the country, about 250 of whom will be from Gujarat," said Ankit Dalal, an organiser of the event.
The five-day long tournament, being organised at SGVP International School, has cash prize purse of Rs 9 lakh, across 73 categories.
The event has been divided in two parts-The Brain Power U-2000 International Rating Tournament and The Brain Power Blitz Rating Tournament, which will be played as per the norms of the World Chess Federation, the organisers said.
