Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh today told reporters that a string of programmes will be held in the state from November 6 to 9 to mark Anti-Black Money Day on November 8.

The Centre had announced to observe the anniversary of demonetisation as the anti-black money day.

"The effective and purposeful steps taken by the government to curb, minimise and eradicate black money will be highlighted in these programmes," the CM said addressing a press conference.

The purposeful steps against black money taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an opportunity to the economy to grow, the CM said, adding that the economy is in transition now.

He said bank deposits saw a rise of Rs 3 lakh crore in the last one year after higher value currencies of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 were banned.

"There was an illustrious increase of 56 per cent in digital payments. Post demonetisation, 18 lakh suspicious bank accounts were investigated and 4.73 lakh doubtful transactions were unearthed," he said, adding that cash circulation in the open market came down by 21 per cent.

He said over Rs 800 crore "benami properties" have been seized.

"New tax payers increased by 56 lakh while number of people filing returns increased to 24.7 per cent from 9.9 per cent during the last one year," the chief minister added.
