Chhattisgarh government has decided to run a monorail here to reduce traffic congestion and increase share of public transport in the urban transport network.

"The state government has planned a comprehensive network of monorail at Raipur which mostly has narrow roads and requires a quick solution for its mounting traffic problems," an official here said today.

"In this connection, Chief Secretary Sunil Kumar chaired a meeting on Wednesday at New Mantralaya here," he said.

According to the official, a monorail is best suited to solve the city's growing traffic woes and its routes will be finalised very soon and a committee headed by the secretary to Chief Minister Raman Singh will initiate steps.

Chief Minister Raman Singh had given a brief presentation at the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries on establishing a monorail network in the city in October last year.
