Reflecting the growing popularity of Bollywood in the US, a cultural extravaganza has been planned in Chicago later this year to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema.

With support from the Illinois State Department of Tourism, the 3-day event beginning August 30 would reminisce the glorious history of the Indian cinema and will have performances from top Bollywood stars, including Katrina Kaif.

"It is truly an honour to recognise icons from the Indian film fraternity that have contributed to making the industry what it is today," Monty Saiyed, one of the key organisers, said at the launch event in Chicago over the weekend, which among others was attended by model and actress Yukta Mookhey.

Chicago, the hometown of the US President Barack Obama, has one of the largest concentrations of South Asians in the country and has a vibrant Indian American community.

"This is a great opportunity for the State to celebrate a milestone in Indian culture, and for Illinoisans to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime event.

"With over 225,000 South Asians calling the Chicago land area home, it is only fitting that an event of this magnitude be held in our great state," Fred Crespo, Member of the State Legislature, said.
