Chidambaram, who will fly to Kargil from Delhi to inaugurate a school function being organised by North Zone Cultural Council, will review the security situation in the state especially during the tourism season, official sources said.
The state government recently reduced footprints of the security forces from various tourist destinations including the main city Lal Chowk.
Chidambaram and Omar will also jointly review the present security situation, the sources said.
The Union Home Ministry is supportive of the Omar government's stand on partial withdrawal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
Some developmental schemes will also come for review during Chidambaram's day-long visit to the Valley.
He will arrive at Kargil airport where he will be received by Omar. Later from this Himalayan town located between Srinagar and Leh, Chidambaram will fly to Srinagar.
