Former Home Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, recently elected to Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra, has been appointed Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs.
He will be succeeding P Bhattacharya.
Chidambaram's party colleague Anand Sharma has been appointed Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice.

TMC's leader in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay has replaced his party colleague and former railway minister Dinesh Trivedi as Chairperson of the Committee on Railways, according to a Lok Sabha bulletin.
The committees headed by Virendra Kumar (JD-U) and Kirit Somaiya (BJP) have been interchanged. Now the Committee on Energy will be headed by the Virender Kumar while Somaiya will chair the Committee on Labour.
The chairmanship in other panels have been retained.
M Veerappa Moily (Congress) will continue to head the Committee on Finance, Shashi Tharoor (Congress) on External Affairs, BC Khanduri (BJP) on Defence, and Anurag Thakur (BJP) on Information and Technology.
Ram Gopal Yadav (SP) will continue to head the Committee on Health, Renuka Chowdhury (Congress) on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests, and Hukum Deo Narayan Yadav (BJP) on Agriculture.
Ramesh Bais (BJP) will continue as chairman of Committee on Social Justice, Rakesh Singh (BJP) on Coal and Steel, P Venugopal (AIADMK) on Rural Development, Anandrao Adsul (Shiv Sena) on Chemicals and Fertilisers, Hukum Singh (BJP) on Water Resources, Pinaki Misra (BJD) on Urban Development, Pralhad Joshi (BJP) on Petroleum and Natural Gas, JC Divakar Reddy (TDP) on Food Consumer Affairs and Bhupendra Yadav (BJP) on Commerce.
Satyanarayan Jatiya (BJP) will head the Committee on Human Resource Development and Sharad Yadav (JD-U) on Industry.
