Chief Cane Development Officer arrested on graft charges

Sleuths of Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested the Chief Cane Development Officer after raiding his house in Fazilka and recovering Rs one lakh alleged bribe money.

Jarmej Singh Rara, the Chief Cane Development Officer at Co-operative Sugar Mill in Modiwala Pithaat Fazilka was arrested on the complaint of a resident of Abohar, an official spokesperson of the Bureau said.

Jaspinder Singh had lodged a complaint against Rara for allegedly demanding Rs 1.50 lakh bribe from him for registering a statement in his favour in a case filed during the Panchayat elections in the state last year.

The complainant said the deal was allegedly finalised for Rs one lakh.
 

The spokesman said sleuths of the Bureau raided the house of Rara and arrested him. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act had been registered in this connection.
