Uttarakhand's new Chief Minister Harish Rawat today paid a surprise visit to a slum area here and listened to the grievances of the dwellers.

Accompanied by a host of senior officials, the chief minister went to the interiors of the slum at Dalanwala in the city and spoke to residents to know the problems faced by them.

Rawat directed District Magistrate BVRC Purushottam and Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) vice chairman Meenakshi Sundaram to prepare a roadmap to cleanse the slum areas of the city and improve the quality of life of the residents.

The chief minister asked them to make arrangements for supply of potable water to the slums, periodic cleaning of the drains in the area and ensure that they don't become the city's dumping zones.

He also asked the officials to build fences along the Rispana and Bindal rivers flowing close to the slums for the safety of children.
