Chief of army staff designate to leave for Delhi tomorrow

Gen Singh made a courtesy call on West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan during the day and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday.

Last week Gen Singh paid a farewell visit to Sukna, Tezpur and all formations of the army in Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland in the North East as also in North Bengal, the sources said.

He also called on Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Governor J B Patnaik, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and Governor R S Mooshahary.

Lt Gen Bikram Singh will be the fifth GoC-in-C from the Eastern Command to become the army chief after P P Kumaramangalam, S H F J Maneckshaw, V N Sharma and V K Singh.

 

Officers and staff of the Eastern Command will host a farewell dinner party for him tonight, the sources added.
