In a blow to BJP in poll- bound Assam, Chief Executive Member of the party-run North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Niranjan Hojai today resigned from his post.
Hojai submitted his resignation letter to the Chairman of the NCHAC just before the commencement of a session that was to take up the no-confidence motion against him.
All Congress Members of Autonomous Council (MACs) were present in today's session, but BJP MACs were absent.

The no-confidence motion was required following a political deadlock as the Hojai-led Council has been reduced to a minority and faced challenge from Congress.
Hojai had been elected as the new CEM in Dima Hasao district on October 24 last year ending a two week-long deadlock in the Council when Congress MACs had joined the BJP. But recently some of the MACs went back to Congress and the Hojai led council became minority.
The NCHAC has 30 MACs, of whom 28 are elected and two are nominated members from the Bengali and Nepali community.
